2-1-2012. Our collaboration with Dr. Sheng Zhong’s lab at UIUC on “Comparative epigenomic annotation of regulatory DNA” has just been accepted by Cell! In the work we introduced the concept of “comparative epigenomics” and suggested conserved co-localization of epigenomics marks can be used to discover regulatory elements. Our lab did the DNA methylation part of the project. Co-authors from our lab includes: Xiaoyun, Mingchao, and Ting.

6-30-2010. Chris and Kevin finished their rotations and moved on to their thesis labs. Chris joins Barak Cohen’s lab and Kevin joins Gautam Dantas’s lab. Both of them are within 100 yards of our lab. We all enjoyed their time in the lab, and we wish them best of luck!

6-17-2010. Our application to investigate transposable element’s role in cancer gene regulatory networks has been funded by Edward Mallinckrodt Jr. Foundation. This is our lab’s first independent grant. We will receive three years of support totalling $180,000 in direct cost.

6-2-2010. Our joint grant application (with professor Joe Costello’s lab at UCSF) to the Goldhirsh Foundation has been funded! This is our first external grant, titled “Sequencing for Genetic Mutations in Promoters via Integrative Epigenomics”. We are going to identify both genetic and epigenetic mutations in GBM (brain tumor). Junchen generated critical data (sequence coverage table) during grant preparation.
Our joint application was one of the 153 Initial Proposal Applications and among the 19 Full Proposals selected for second stage review. The Goldhirsh Foundation has approved to make 1 two-year award and 3 one-year $200,000 awards. We are the only two-year $400,000 Award Recipient. The total direct cost for our lab is $80,000 for two years.
